TEEMA Members Participate in Wind Energy Asia 2022

By Tiffany Kang, International Affairs Department of TEEMA

Wind Energy Asia, Taiwan’s largest as well as Asia’s second largest international trade show in the wind power industry, was held at Kaohsiung Exhibition Center from March 9-11, 2022.

It is the second time that TEEMA organizes a group of electrical and electronic companies to exhibit at this event. This year, the show gathered more than 130 exhibitors from 15 countries, with 5 pavilions from Denmark, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Scotland and France. The hybrid event featuring an online platform with video conferencing function and virtual booths enabled Taiwanese exhibitors to promote wind energy-related technologies and products internationally in a more efficient way.

According to the organizer, over 6,000 visitors from 43 countries attended the show physically and virtually this year.

The exhibits displayed at Wind Energy Asia 2022 included components of wind turbines, wind energy conversion systems, energy storage systems, underwater infrastructure, submarine cables, ship manufacturing, floating platforms, wind farm maintenance, and much more. The active participation of domestic and foreign exhibitors and visitors was expected to contribute to a great deal of potential international business opportunities.

The exhibitor delegation organized by TEEMA consisted of 8 member companies with 15 booths in total, showcasing wind turbine generators, coil winding of wind turbines, wind farm operation and construction, wind energy storage technologies, monitoring of underwater noise, and so on. The booths of TEEMA’s members were located near several wellknown overseas exhibitors, therefore attracted lots of buyers to visit and make inquiries. Most exhibitors from TEEMA responded positively to the show.

In order to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, many countries have been investing in renewable energy. Taiwan’s offshore wind power industry has attracted international attention mainly because of the country’s favorable conditions in terms of the development of wind energy. Taiwan’s first-ever offshore wind farm “Formosa 1”, located about 2-6 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli County in northwestern Taiwan, had begun operating in 2019. By 2025, nearly NTD1 trillion is expected to be invested in Taiwan’s offshore wind energy, reducing 11.92 million tons of carbon emissions per year. It is also expected to create around 20,000 jobs. Wind Energy Asia 2022 demonstrated that Taiwan is on the way of becoming the hub of wind energy in Asia, and provided chances for Taiwanese companies to gain access to the global supply chain.

Wind Energy Asia 2023 will also take place at Kaohsiung Exhibition Center in March next year. Since this is Taiwan’s largest and the most professional trade show in the wind power industry, TEEMA plans to continue to assist our members in exhibiting at next year’s event.
