By Safon Liu, International Affairs Department of TEEMA

Affected by the U.S.-China trade conflict and the global ravages of COVID-19, the global manufacturing long supply chain has gradually transformed into a regional short supply chain. Taiwanese companies such as Foxconn, Wistron, Pegatron, Foxlink, Zhen Ding Tech. set up factories and plants in India to engage in electronic manufacturing by means of the request of their customer Apple Inc. In order to assist member manufacturers to go to the India market, TEEMA has the close cooperation with India Taipei Association, Taiwan India Business Association and Indian partner associations for new business and investment information; makes our member form the supply chain in India and strengthen their business competitiveness. Recently the ease of international epidemic restrictions happens when the re-open of country border. In addition, the sustainable economic is more and more important after the climate change.

TEEMA’s members are ready to expand new oversea business opportunities. For those reasons, TEEMA Chairman Richard Lee visited Chairman Johnson Chen and Honorary Chairman Charles Kao of TEMA (Taiwan Environmental Manufacturers Association) in the purpose of mutual cooperation in India focusing on the disposal recycling technologies and solutions.

TEEMA plans a visiting delegation to the industrial delta area consisting of Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad on Southern India for establishing the relationship with Indian IT companies. Currently the cell phone local manufacture and assembling in India has been improved and full supplied. In the next stage, Indian government announced that products such as laptops and servers should be manufactured in India.

Taiwanese companies can put the investment with the past experience of industrial clustering in Chongqing of China and form the supply cluster to South India. The manufacture in China is the OEM Exportoriented, but the production in India should focus on the domestic market. This is why TEEMA member manufacturers need the assistance of TEMA members in India for long-term perspective, said by TEEMA Chairman Lee.

In the view of the TEMA business engagement in India, main two items such as the zero liquid discharge for wastewater management and the zero waste disposal has been involved. Indian implementation of zero-emission policy was quite advanced though India belongs to one of under developing countries.

TEMA entered into this market because of those potential business opportunities, and expectedly can serve TEEMA’s members as the VIP customers in India in the future, said by TEMA Chairman Chen and TEMA Honorary Chairman Kao.
