Successful Launch of Taiwan-Turkey/Taiwan-Poland EV Industry Business Cooperation Webinar

TEEMA & TTBA Work hand-in-hand to Foster Business Opportunities

To better assist Taiwan's electric vehicle, electrical and electronic companies in exploring the emerging market in Turkey, finding suitable local partners, facilitating the complementary integration of relevant technologies, and forging partnership between manufacturing and supply chain, TEEMA and Taiwan-Turkey Business Association(TTBA) jointly held Taiwan-Turkey EV Industry Business Cooperation Webinar on April 16th.
Guests and attendees of the meeting which include Mr. Theodore Huang, Chairman of Taiwan-Turkey Business Association (Senior Advisors to the President and Polic y Advisor of TEEMA), Mr. George Lien, Secretary General of Taiwan-Turkey Business Association and Supervisor of TEEMA, Mr. Oguz Karayegen, Chairman of Turkey-Taiwan Business Council, Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey(DEIK), Mr. Volkan Chih-Yang, Huang, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission in Ankara, Mr. Alex Liao, Director General, Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Economic Affairs, Mr. Muhammed Berdibek, Representative of Turkish Trade Office in Taipei, Ms. Elçin Edis, Head of Asia Pacific Department, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Winner Yu, Managing Director of Board of TEEMA etc. all joined the first-ever Taiwan-Turkey EV Industry Business Cooperation Webinar.
TEEMA invited upstream and downstream of the Taiwan's electric vehicle manufacturers such as Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing Ltd., Etreego, Photic Electronics Co., Ltd., TECO, UniMax Electronics Inc., AU Optronics Corporation and Actron Technology Corporation to engage in online interaction with Turkish manufacturers recommended by Turkey-Taiwan Business Council, Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK).
Taiwanese electric vehicle companies attended this meeting are from the fields of charging station, electric buses, vehicle panels, vehicle electronics, ADAS system integration, electric vehicle charging, motors and power supply systems; Turkish manufacturers are well-known for their local electric buses and agricultural electric tractors.
Taiwan and Turkey are complementary in terms of their industrial structure. Taiwan's ICT and auto parts industry enjoy international competitiveness, while the automobile industry is Turkey's strong suit.
According to the "National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (2017-2023)" published by the Turkish government, the Turkish government plans to set different tax rates based on vehicle's fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The current vehicle tax rate will be adjusted accordingly, with low emission vehicles receiving preferential tax rates. In addition, according to the latest statistics from the Turkish Automotive Distributors Association, its members sold 844 electric vehicles in 2020, an increase of 280.2% compared to the sales record of 2019; while hybrid vehicles sold 22,272 units.
The Turkish government actively develops and promotes electric vehicles. It is expected that the Turkish electric vehicle industry will grow rapidly, which would in turn raise the demand for electric vehicle related accessories in upstream midstream and downstream companies, such as image transmission (image sensing system), motor power systems (elect ric motors, transmission components), battery systems (battery materials), and charging systems. Taiwan's supply chain manufacturers should seize the growing trend of electric vehicle development in Turkey strengthen the chain of cooperation, use this market as stepping stones to the Middle East market. EV vehicle has become one of Turkey's key development projects, meaning tremendous business opportunities, so now is the time for cooperation in the electric vehicle industry chain between Taiwan and Turkey.
However, for Taiwanese suppliers, entering the Turkish market may face challenges from existing and potential competitors. For example, many companies in Turkey are already developing and providing charging infrastructure, including E arj, G-Charge (Gersan), Voltrun , Yesil Güç (Greenway), Zorlu Energy Solutions (ZES), etc. Taiwan companies can also gain a foothold into the market through cooperation in the supply chain.
With the rise in the awareness of energy saving, carbon reduction and environmental protection, Norway, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France and other European countries have successively announced the ban on fuel vehicles, while rolling out subsidy policies for electric vehicles; under the global trend of emission reduction, the new US Biden administration not only actively drafted policies to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, but also took the lead in announcing that 650,000 government vehicles will be replaced by electric vehicles and 550,000 charging station to will be built across the country within the next 4 years, aiming to achieve the goal of 100% clean energy and net-zero emission no later than 2050.
Under the threat of severe air pollution and climate change, governments all around the world have strengthen their energy policies and set stricter standards, with a view to honor the "Paris Climate Agreement" in achieving the goals of 50% carbon reduction by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Aside from effectively increasing the capacity of public transportation, when it comes to reducing air pollution caused by transportation, actively lowering dependence on fossil fuels and accelerating the promotion of electric vehicles are even more crucial, making it the internationally common goal in carbon reduction and emission reduction. Mr. Volkan Chih-Yang Huang, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission in Ankara, also mentioned in his opening speech that due to the advancement of electric vehicle technology development and increasingly strict environmental emission regulations, 2021 will be the turning point for EVs.

Taiwan and Poland Held First-Ever

Online Electric Vehicle Industry Dialogue for Win-Win Cooperation TEEMA visited Poland in July 2019 with a total of 15 members from 12 member manufacturers led by Mr. Winner Yu, Managing Director of Board, TEEMA.
Taipei Representative Office in Poland arranged TEEMA delegation to visit many well-known Polish companies and local associations and one of them is the Polish Automotive Group. At that moment Mr. Bartosz Mielecki, Managing Director, PGM also exchanged views with some TEEMA's member. PGM was very keen on our automotive electronic products and technologies.
In order to facilitate the continual exchange and cooperation between two countries, with the support and assistance from the Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taipei Representative Office in Poland, TEEMA invited its members to engage in dialogues with companies of the Polish Automotive Group (PGM). Taiwan-Poland EV Industry Business Cooperation Webinar was held on April 20th, aiming to form bilateral economic and trade partnerships.
TEEMA invited Taiwanese manufacturers such as Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing Ltd. , Etreego, Photic Electronics Co., Ltd., TECO, UniMax Electronics Inc., AU Optronics Corporation and Actron Technology Corporation to engage in dialogue with manufacturers recommended by PGM (Polish Automotive Group) such as Amphenol El-Cab, Tarapata Company, EFT Group, and invites others related governmental and academic unit related to EV industry such as ukasiewicz Research Network and National Centre for Climate Change in order to provide valuable advice for Taiwanese companies to enter the Polish EV market.
