Industrial solar energy producers with capacity of more than 50kW supplied 25% of the electricity produced in Hungary at around noon on Sunday, a new record high after the 22% reached on April 16, the electricity grid operator Mavir announced on Tuesday. Including imports, the 1,034MW of solar energy provided 22.6% of the total consumption. The total capacity of Hungary’s 1,900 solar farms is 1,200MW, up from 1,000MW recorded in April. On Sunday as a whole, solar farms accounted for 7.3% of total daily production and 5.8% of consumption.

They pointed out that the rapid and significant expansion of photovoltaic capacity poses a challenge in the integration of the electricity system and the electricity market. However, Mavir attaches the utmost importance to the implementation of all efforts that allow producers to be connected to the grid in a unified manner, as well as provide appropriate incentives for investment in renewable generation and full integration into the electricity market and electricity system, they stressed.

The total capacity of the 1935 industrial solar power plant in Hungary reached 1,221 megawatts by October - only 1,016 megawatts at the previous record in April - giving 12.57 percent of the current gross capacity of the electricity system, and this ratio is expected to increase further. . Incidentally, this growth is also dynamic in the utilization of solar energy at the household level, according to the data of the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority for the first quarter of 2020, the total capacity of these small power plants reaches 508 megawatts, they pointed out.
