MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian civil engineering company Belzarubezhstroy will build Belarus' largest photovoltaic power plant with the output capacity of 109MW in Cherikov District, Mogilev Oblast in 2019. Belzarubezhstroy signed the relevant contract with the customer – Solar Land Company – on 21 December, BelTA has learned. Director of Solar Land Company Nikita Mikhnevich said that modules to collect solar energy will be placed on a special subsystem.

A land plot as large as 220ha has been allocated for the photovoltaic power plant. The energy will be fed to the national power grid. The project does not have a short payback period but it is interesting because of its stability and perspective. The construction of the solar power plant is aimed at developing an environmentally friendly solar power engineering industry in Belarus, diversifying energy sources, reducing operational and transportation costs in supplying electricity to nearby populated localities. The project is expected to help save foreign currency by reducing the import of oil and natural gas by a certain amount.

Investments in the project will exceed $150 million. It will be financed by Solar Land Company's own funds and credit resources. The company is a daughter enterprise of the Irish company Cameliaside Limited, which is part of United Green Group. The group invests in renewable energy projects all over the world. The equipment will be supplied by Power China Guizhou Engineering Company. Belzarubezhstroy will take care of general construction and installation work. The company is Belarus' leading exporter of civil engineering services. It has a track record of implementing major industrial construction, civil engineering, and power engineering projects.
